Johnson (Yamekraw) were well conceived… Everything else was nicely done, especially Copland’s wonderful Piano Variations, in which Mr. Davis found the homespun lyricism beneath the severe Serialist gestures…The Bartok performance [of Out of Doors] was hardly less impressive than the Copland.”
